for academic coach of the year Mary Ann Chamberlin, a
longtime social studies teacher and academic coach at St.
Roch Catholic School, is one of three finalists for the
Indiana Association of School Principal's Academic Coach of
the Year Award. The winner of the coach
of the year award will be announced at the Indianapolis
Convention Center on Oct. 3. St. Roch's academic
teams, led by Mrs. Chamberlin, have had much success over
the past years. Mrs. Chamberlin's spell bowl teams have
qualified and competed in the state spell bowl competition
five out of the last nine years. Their 2006 spell bowl
team finished with a state runner-up trophy, successfully
spelling 66 out of 72 words on their way to their best
finish ever. Mrs. Chamberlin's
academic super bowl teams have also had much success. Their
accomplishments at the state level include a 2000 runner-up
trophy in social studies, a 2001 interdisciplinary state
championship, a 2004 third place finish in social studies,
and a 2006 third place finish in English. Mrs. Chamberlin also
supervises St. Roch's speech teams, Quest for Excellence
teams, and spends many hours after school coaching
students.
