UIndy Faculty Artist Series opens with Maestro Leppard The University of Indianapolis Faculty Artist Series opens its 28th season at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, with a free gala concert featuring Maestro Raymond Leppard. The series includes 16 additional Monday evening concerts and one Sunday afternoon concert from September through March, with presentations featuring solo repertoire, period instrument performances, premieres of new works and distinctive approaches to classic and contemporary jazz. With the exception of the Nov. 23 event, all Faculty Artist Series concerts are presented in Ruth Lilly Performance Hall of the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center, 1400 E. The Beech Grove poster contest is open to all residents of Beech Grove and students attending Beech Grove schools. Posters should celebrate the theme of "Mardi Gras" in the artwork. The artwork created will be displayed on Main Street. Prizes will be awarded and will include $25 for first place, $15 second place, $10 for third in each category. The categories are: Grades K &endash;3, Grades 4-8 and Grades 9-Adult. To enter, pick up poster paper from Warren Whittaker Agency of State Farm Insurance, 515 Main St., Beech Grove Public Library, 1102 Main St., or at Beech Grove schools. The judging will be based upon the representation of the theme. Posters can be made using any art medium but must be original work. Poster must be created using our approved poster paper. You must complete entry registration form. Attach the form to the back of posters. All entries must be turned in to the Whittaker State Farm Office or the Beech Grove Public Library by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9 to be considered for the contest. All entries will be displayed on Main Street during the Promoter's Fall Festival. Any entries that are deemed inappropriate will not be displayed. One entry per person. Decision of the judges is final. Winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded at the Fall Festival.
The Epilogue Players present the Neal Simon comedy "The Odd Couple" the female version. The story revolves around two women, poorly paired as they muddle through their problems and clashing life styles. The play starts Friday and runs through Sept. 21. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Reservations required by calling 926-3139. Tickets are $10, $9 for seniors and students. The Epilogue Theater is located at 19th and Alabama.
